We understand that there is not a single solution which is perfect for
everybody at once, so we've
decided to deliver our users several modes of installation, each differing by
the installation environment and level of difficulty. We believe that now
everyone will be able to choose the method that is right for him or her.
Simply choose the ISO images you want to download, and the mirror you want to download them from. Note that both KDE and GNOME are available as individual packages from the KateOS repositories. . KateOS is available in three versions:
KateOS CORE is the traditional version, on three CDs or one DVD. It
containsall the applications which are essential for the desktop, workstation and
server. It is targetted toward intermediate and advanced users who want to
have full control over the system beginning with the installation. The
CORE version lets the user choose the software for installation and system
services. Also, it can create an initramfs startup image. It contains a
text-mode dialog-based installer which works especially well on older
machines. If you know what you want -- and how you want it -- this version is right for you.
KateOS LIVE is a full system which works directly from the CD. You just need to
insert the disc into your CD-ROM drive and boot the computer from it. A fully
functional KateOS system will run directly from the disc, without ever
touching your hard drive data. KateOS LIVE contains a common set of desktop software. It is a great solution
if you have no experience with KateOS. The LIVE version is equipped with a
graphical installer which will guide you through a trivial installation
process. There is no easier way to get KateOS if you want a fully
functional system quickly and easily.
KateOS MiniISO is a minimial edition containing nothing but the essentials.
The installation disc is very small, and the set of software will let you
run the system with access to basic tools. It is meant for advanced users who
want to assemble their system and software on their own. Thanks to updateos, a
KateOS tool dedicated to remote software management, you can easily install
all the software you need from remote repositories.
Warning! A MiniISO installation often requires
manual configuration. This is why it is only recommended for experienced
KateOS users - especially for those who want to use the testing branch.
More detailed information on the installation process of various versions can be found in the KateOS Documentation Centre |
